Logging companies are most often set up as limited liability companies (SRL).
The first step is deciding the legal form of your future logging company. Next you need to settle certain key points according to your needs: the registered office, the number of shareholders, each shareholder’s share, the company’s duration, the capital, the appointment of a director, and how the company will be dissolved and liquidated.
The first and most important formal step is registering the company with the Trade Register. This requires:

- setting the company’s activities — you must choose a main activity from the activity classes with CAEN codes.
In your case you will choose one or more CAEN codes from group 02, Forestry and logging, which includes:
021 Silviculture and other forestry activities
022 Logging
023 Gathering of wild growing non-wood products
024 Support services to forestry
- drawing up the articles of association.
The Forestry Code requires certain authorisations for logging and processing roundwood.
Timber may be harvested only after obtaining the harvesting and site handover authorisation. Logging may be carried out only by operators certified by the certification committee, which operates within the nationally recognised employers’ and professional association for the forestry sector.
The harvesting authorisation is issued by the forest district that manages the forest or provides forestry services.
Likewise, processing roundwood in installations or machinery owned by legal persons requires authorisation of the legal person and of its installations and machinery by a committee set up for this purpose.
The committee that certifies logging operators works within the Forestry Employers’ Association of Romania.
To obtain the certificate, the company must file with the committee’s secretariat a file containing the documents required by law.
