Short Stay Visa in Romania

Short stay visa is a visa that allows foreigners to apply for entry to Romania for reasons other than immigration for an uninterrupted stay or multiple stays of up to 90 days, within 6 months of the date first entry. This type of visa can be issued with one or more entries.

If the date of entry into Romania cannot be established on the basis of the allegations in the alien’s travel document.

In the case of foreigners who travel frequently to Romania for business-cooperation relations, at the request of central administrative authorities or commercial companies with high economic and financial capacity, the short-stay visa with multiple entries can be granted for a period of one year, and exceptionally for up to 5 years. And in these situations the length of stay can not exceed 90 days within 6 months.

The short-term visa is granted for the following purposes:

  • mission – to foreigners who, for reasons of their political, administrative or public utility function, must travel to Romania. This type of visa is issued to foreigners who perform positions in governments, public administrations or international organizations, as well as those who, for the purpose of their stay in Romania, are interested in the relations between the Romanian state and the state of appearance. This type of visa may also be issued to family members accompanying them;
  • tourism – for the foreigner who travels like this in Romania for tourist reasons;
  • visit – for the foreigner who intends to visit Romania to visit Romanian or foreign citizens holding a valid residence permit;
  • business – for a foreigner who intends to travel to Romania for economic or commercial purposes, for contracts or negotiations, for learning or checking the use and operation of goods purchased or sold under commercial and industrial cooperation contracts, as well as for the foreigner who is or is going to becomes associate or shareholder of a Romanian trading company;
  • transport – for the foreigner who is to travel for short periods, in order to carry out some professional activities related to the transport of goods or persons;
  • sports activities – for the foreigner to enter Romania for a limited duration in order to participate in sports competitions;
  • cultural, scientific, humanitarian, short-term medical treatment or other activities that do not contravene Roman Laws – in the justification of the presence in Romania.

The right of residence on the territory of Romania, granted to the alien by short-stay visa, can not be extended.

Conditions for granting a short stay visa in Romania

Depending on the purpose for which the short-stay visa was applied for, it is unclear to meet the following conditions:

Mission – visa is given to foreigners who prove they have: a political, administrative or public utility function and moving to Romania by virtue of these qualities.

Tourism – Visa is granted to aliens if it shows:

  • a voucher or a firm reservation to a tourist accommodation unit and the itinerary of the trip;
  • travel ticket valid to the destination or driving license, green card or vehicle registration documents in the case of drivers;
  • medical insurance;
  • proof of maintenance costs in the amount of 50 euro/day for the whole period, but not less than 500 euro or the equivalent in convertible currency.

Visit – Visa is granted to aliens if it shows:

  • travel ticket valid to the destination or driving license, green card and vehicle registration documents in the case of drivers;
  • medical insurance;
  • an authenticated invitation from the person visited to show that it will provide the cost of the removal if the invited alien does not leave Romania until the date of termination of the right of residence established by the visa and when the person visited undertakes, means of maintenance and accommodation of the alien;
  • proof of means of maintenance in the amount of 50 euro/day for the whole period, but not less than 500 euro or the equivalent in convertible currency;
  • the proof of the accommodation conditions, in the form of a firm reservation at an accommodation unit, a document of ownership or rental of a dwelling in Romania on the name of the applicant if the person visited does not provide the accommodation.

Business –  visa is granted to foreigners if they present:

  • travel ticket valid to the destination or driving license, green card and vehicle registration documents in the case of drivers;
  • medical insurance;
  • an invitation from a commercial company or public authority to attend meetings, conferences, fairs or congresses in connection with trade or industry, showing that the company or public authority concerned will provide the cost of the removal if the invited alien does not leave Romania until the date of termination of the right of residence established by the visa or other documents proving the purpose of the trip;
  • proof of the means of maintenance in the amount of 50 euro/day for the whole period, but not less than 500 euro or the equivalent in convertible currency.
  • proof of ensuring accommodation conditions.

Transport – Visa is granted to aliens if it shows:

  • documents certifying the applicant’s profession, as well as the activity to be carried out during the stay;
  • medical insurance;
  • driving license, green card, and vehicle registration documents
  • transport license and execution license.

Sports activities – visa is given to foreigners if they present:

  • the invitation of organizers to certify medical insurance and accommodation;
  • the official list of the foreign sports delegation, specifying the quality of each member;
  • the opinion of the County Department for Territorial Competent Sports.

Cultural, scientific, humanitarian, short-term medical treatment or other activities that do not contravene Roman Law – Visas are granted to aliens if they present:

  • documents issued by the institutions to which they are going to justify their presence in Romania;
  • travel ticket valid to the destination or driving license, green card and vehicle registration documents in the case of drivers;
  • proof of means of maintenance in the amount of 100 euro/day or the equivalent in convertible currency for the whole period;
  • medical insurance;
  • proof of ensuring accommodation conditions.
